Foo Fighters invaded Chicago for a special show at the Cubby Bear after airing the premiere of their HBO docu-series, Sonic Highways. The venue had a deep importance to FF lead singer Dave Grohl as it was the site of the first Punk show he ever attended when he saw Naked Raygun back in ’83.
After the screening of the first episode, the band went on to put on a huge performance, as if they were some up-and-coming band and this was their one big shot to finally get discovered. The Foo Fighters played a monstrous, career-spanning set that included covers and special guests like Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick and Jeff Pezzati of Naked Raygun.
I’m hating extra hard right now, but at least I’ll always have this to have a peek at what may possibly have been the best show in Chicago this year. See them play “Learn To Play” above and check out other performances from that night including songs like “Rope,” “The Pretender” and the night’s closer, “Everlong,” below.
