Check out the Foo Fighters’ Nashville-inspired Sonic Highways track “Congregation.” The song features guest work from Zac Brown, who we previously saw helping the Foos play an extra rad rendition of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” on Letterman. Tonight’s episode of the HBO docu-series that bears the same name as the new album focuses on the Tennessee town and how it influenced the sound on “Congregation,” recorded at Brown’s Southern Ground Studios.
The song features the line “And they’re singing like a bluebird in the round,” which Rolling Stone presumes may be a reference to the city’s Bluebird Café. Back in May, Grohl played at the Bluebird Café a couple of Foo songs including “Everlong” and “Big Me” on acoustic guitar. The Foo Fighters frontman would say of the experience: “In Nashville, it seems like there are these rites of passage that you have to go through to become a star, whether you’re a singer or a songwriter, and the Bluebird is really one of those. If you can get down at the Bluebird, you’ve got a gig.”
Sonic Highways is due out November 10th. See a preview of the new episode and hear “Congregation” below.
