Is there any band in the world bigger than Arctic Monkeys these days? Most likely not. So there was no doubt in my mind about who to see close out Day 1 at Lollapalooza this year when I saw the Brits headlining along with Hip Hop legend, Eminem. My respects to Em, but with the release of AM, Arctic Monkeys have a whole new live set with new songs that weren’t heard live in previous appearances so this performance was very, very different from their 2011 Lolla show and it was a can’t miss for long-time and new fans alike.
The band opened with “Do I Wanna Know?” (above) and the crowd was instantly under Alex Turner’s spell for the remaining hour and a half of their set. The set list was heavy on AM with tracks like “Arabella,” ” plus classics like “I Bet That You Look Good On The Dance Floor,” “Fluorescent Adolescent,” and “505.” See “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?” below.
