To celebrate 40 year’s since the release of his Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Elton John will be releasing a “Super Deluxe” version set for release next week that features a bonus disc of today’s artists covering his records. Today we get a cut from that bonus disco with Miguel and Wale’s cover of “Bennie and the Jets.” The beat is just a small alteration to the original, adding a heavier percussion and bass section with Miguel proving he’s got the chops to cover such an iconic track. For some reason his part keeps me thinking he sounds sort of like Thin Lizzy’s lead singer, Phil Lynott doing their “The Boys Are Back In Town.” Wale’s part in this on the other hand just doesn’t make any sense and it sort of taints an otherwise great cover.
