Nike Soccer presents: Mercurial Vapor – IX Fast Forward ’02 Edition, inspired by the Brazilian Ronaldo. Ronaldo is, by far, the greatest player I’ve ever seen play “the beautiful game” and he’s the main reason why I started and continue using Nike’s Mercurial Vapors today. And from the looks of it, I know exactly which boots I want to be using this summer…
The latest release draws inspiration from those 2002 edition Mercurial Vapors released just before the World Cup that year. Brazil’s #9, Ronaldo, wore special edition chrome/lime Mercurial Vapors during the semi-final and final of a tournament where he eventually scored 8 goals in total and helped crown Brazil as world champions. While it follows that same color scheme as the original, the boot itself features the modern design that was engineered to deliver both the speed and skill all wearers require.
As Nike notes:
Subtle graphic references, colors and prints combine with modern materials and innovation to celebrate the boot’s legacy of speed while commemorating a magical summer tournament for Ronaldo and the Mercurial.
A small heel logo mark identifies the original year of inspiration, and the sockliner tells the story of key moments in the Mercurial’s history.
