Now with the announcement that Dave Grohl’s Sound City documentary is set to premiere at the iconic Sundance Film Festival, we now also have the digital release date.
The doc will be released as an HD digital download and available for streaming on February 1 via www.soundcitymovie.com, where fans can pre-order it now. For fans that pre-order it now for $10, they will receive instant exclusive rewards along with a stream and download of the entire film on the release date. Sound City can also be sent as a gift.
Sound City will also be released theatrically, in association with Variance Films, Feb. 1 (cities and theaters will be announced shortly).
The film tells the story of Sound City, a legendary recording studio located in Van Nuys, CA, and was inspired when Grohl purchased the Neve 8028 recording console built in 1972 from the studio since its closing (along with his personal connection to the studio dating back to 1991, when Nirvana recorded Nevermind there).
The recording console is considered to be the crown jewel of analog recording equipment and has captured such artists as Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Cheap Trick, Guns and Roses, Fear, Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine, Slipknot, Nine Inch Nails, Metallica and TONS of other legends.
