To mark what would have been the 60th birthday of punk pioneer Joe Strummer, Hellcat will release a new collection, The Hellcat Years, by his post-Clash outfit, Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros.
Included on the album is this live version of “Johnny Appleseed” from a benefit the band performed November 15th, 2002, at Acton Old Town Hall – a concert notable for cameo by Mick Jones. Strummer’s former Clash bandmate joined the group on stage for eight songs (though not “Johnny Appleseed”), marking the first time the two had played on stage together since Jones’ departure from the Clash in 1983.
Strummer died not long after this performance, on December 22nd, 2002.
