One thing that is undeniable is that some of Rock music’s greatest artists are British and so when the organizers set to score the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony they turned to some of that country’s greatest acts to form the soundtrack. For good reason, the Arctic Monkeys were asked to perform and they did so perfectly.
The Arctic Monkeys played their breakthrough hit “I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor” and a very awesome (and very true to the original) cover of a Beatles classic, “Come Together.” A studio version of their “Come Together” cover is also now available via iTunes. Look below for the live performance and scroll to the bottom of the page to hear the studio version.
The opening ceremonies also featured performances from by Sir Paul McCartney (who closed the show), Dizzee Rascal, Two Door Cinema Club, and Emeli Sandé. The soundtrack was composed of songs from Britain’s most prolific artists such as The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Sex Pistols, New Order, Prodigy, Blur, Radiohead, Muse, Coldplay, Fuck Buttons (awesome name!) and Pink Floyd’s “Eclipse” as the Olympic flame blew at its highest and the fireworks started booming. Check out the entire soundtrack below.
Great show thanks to Creative Director Danny Boyle and Musical Directors Underworld.
