Ok readers, so summer time is finally here!! What better way to celebrate than to head up to, or down to, one of the most vibrant neighborhoods in the city. Lincoln Park will be host to the Chicago Summerfest 2012. Come out and enjoy food and live music. There will be vendors and various other attractions there I’m sure.
An estimated 25,000 people come out every year to see what Chicago Summerfest has to offer. Can’t find a baby sitter? Bring the kids too and make a family event out of it, there’s a family area with activities for kids. It’s no secret though, that once the sun goes down, kids go to sleep and the liquor starts flowing, it’s a good time waiting to happen. It will be taking place Saturday and Sunday at Clark St. and Armitage Ave. Saturday acts include bands; South of 80 @ 4pm, Too White Crew @ 6pm, and 16 Candles @ 8pm. Sunday acts include bands; The Hat Guys @ 1pm, Trippin’ Billies @ 3pm, Mike and Joe @ 5pm, and Wedding Banned @ 7pm.
Don’t forget to check out the Green Music Festival while you’re in the area which will be taking place in Wicker Park on Damen Ave. between North and Schiller also Saturday and Sunday. It’s called the “Green” Music Fest because it’s a hip and environmentally-conscious festival which includes Green vendors and environmentally savvy musicians. They try to connect Chicagoans with environmentally-sustainable companies, products, and ideas and try to inspire change in the community and lifestyles of Chicagoans. There is a $5 donation amount to attend this event. So if you support the environment and hopes for a brighter cleaner Chicago, make sure you stop by this weekend and check it out. There will be a craft beer booth and who doesn’t enjoy a cold brew on a warm summer night. Headliners of the shows are Saturday on the North Stage: Dinosaur Jr. @ 8pm and South Stage: Hey Rosetta! @ 6pm. Sunday on North Stage: The Raveonettes @ 8pm and South Stage: Passafire @ 6:30pm
So if you’re on the Northside this weekend.. Don’t miss out on the festivities..
