Frank Ocean announced via his Tumblr page that he has been threatened of a possible lawsuit for his “Hotel California” sample. Frank Ocean’s Nostalgia, Ultra was released last February via his blog for free and had the internet going nuts. His music had been put on the shelves by his label, so he decided to release the project for without any build up or promotion for it. One of the standout tracks is called “American Wedding” which samples The Eagles “Hotel California.” Don Henley, who sang “Hotel California,” has contacted Frank Ocean’s camp and threatened to file a lawsuit if he ever performs that song live again. I’m not sure if Don Henley has a case with trying to sue Frank Ocean since a lot of artists sample other songs on free projects. I feel if it released for free, then he shouldn’t have to have the sample cleared. It would be more understandable if he had released the project commercially without getting the song cleared. So what do you think? Let us know if you agree or disagree with Don Henley’s request.
