MLS Announces 20th Club: New York City FC

21 May

The MLS has announced the league’s 20th club: New York City Football Club (NYCFC). The founding of the team was three years laying the groundwork, as Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber announced on Tuesday that the new club is the product of a collaboration between English Premier League 2011/2012 Champions Manchester City FC and Major League Baseball’s legendary New York Yankees.

The new team will be named and is expected to begin play in 2015.

While it’s not exactly surprising, for those of us that follow the beautiful game, especially in the US’s league, this is important news for it’s a testament to the growth of the sport and what’s best is that New York proper, the capital of the world, will be home to the club. I’m no Man. City fan at all, but when my country’s soccer league shows (major) growth, it’s something worth being proud of.

Images of the 2013/2014 Nike kits for Spanish champions F.C. Barcelona have been released. Most importantly, the new kits eliminate the 2012/2013′s crappy-looking fading/blending effect made with the respective home and away colors, opting now for solid stripes. The Barça home kit features the same color scheme with a yellow collar, while the away kit is based on the Catalán “Senyera” flag with yellow and red stripes. See the new kits below. [...]

Club play is coming to an end with the Premier League, Serie A and the Bundesliga all closing up shop for the summer. The last fixture was drenched in drama and some great goals were more without a doubt present. Video: Chester Bennington Fronts Stone Temple Pilots at KROQ Weenie Roast 2013

20 May

Apparently Chester Bennington, better known as the lead singer of Linkin Park, is the new frontman for classic Alternative Rock group Stone Temple Pilots. At the 21st Annual KROQ Weenie Roast Bennington replaced original frontman Scott Weiland, who’s long been struggling with alcohol and drug problems and has been recently fired from the group, and performed several classic STP hits like “Interstate Love Song,” “Dead & Bloated,” and “Trippin’ On A Hole In A Paper Heart,” which you can see in the video above.

The new lineup of STP also performed a new song called “Out of Time,” that’s available for a free download from Radio.com. Hear that below. [...]

Queens of the Stone Age have released a 15-minute animated short film in support of their upcoming album …Like Clockwork.  This comes after the band released teasers and wicked, dark animated videos for several new QOTSA tracks.

The animated short combines the clips of several songs from the new project and combines them with images by artist Boneface and animator Liam Brazier.

See it above.

Smith Westerns – “3am Spiritual”

20 May

Smith Westerns - Soft Will

Chicago band Smith Westerns have just released their latest track from their Soft Will project. “3am Spiritual” is a lot mellower than “Varsity” but the classic sound the band has adopted is more than present. The guitar lick, keyboards and even lead singer Cullen Omori’s vocals help it sound like something in between a David Bowie and a Mott The Hoople.

Stream “3am Spiritual” below. [...]

Video: The Rolling Stones feat. Dave Grohl – “Bitch” (Live)

20 May

The legendary band, The Rolling Stones, are well into the North American leg of their 50 Years and Counting Tour and they’re still putting on a hell of a show with the added value of having a special guest performance on every night (so far). Last night (May 19th) during their Anaheim, California show they were joined by another Rock God, Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl, for a performance of their badass track, “Bitch.”

In what just may be one of the best amateur recordings of a live performance ever (I know it’s our schtick, but it doesn’t compete with this [yet]), a fan (“suprefan”) that was front row for the show captured the magic. Unless you get a professional “master” recording of this performance, this is as good as it gets and that’s a damn good thing!

I’ll be at their May 31st show (with GA tix!) and I’m sure hoping the band keeps bringing on guest acts and that I get to capture a video like this. So far the band has already had live help from John Meyer, Katy Perry and Gwen Stefani, among others.

See more videos from that Rolling Stones show at suprefan’s channel HERE.
